About Fleet
Dr. Fleet Maull is the founder of Heart Mind Institute, Prison Dharma Network, Prison Mindfulness Institute, Center for Mindfulness in Public Safety, National Prison Hospice Association, and Windorse Seminars & Consulting.
He is also the co-founder of Engaged Mindfulness Institute, Transforming Justice Initiative, the Rwanda Bearing Witness Retreat & Peace Initiative, and the Center for Contemplative End-of-Life Care at Naropa University.
He currently serves as the CEO and Director of Training, Research & Development for Prison Mindfulness Institute, Center for Mindfulness in Public Safety and the Engaged Mindfulness Institute, as well as CEO and senior trainer for Heart Mind Institute and Windhorse Seminars & Consulting.

Dr. Maull has been practicing mindfulness-awareness meditation for five decades, training in the Tibetan, Zen and Vipassana Buddhist traditions. He was a close, senior student and personal attendant to renowned Tibetan meditation master, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Naropa University, and a close student and Dharma successor of the intrepid and innovative Zen master, social entrepreneur and peacemaker, Roshi Bernie Glassman.
He is a fully empowered, senior meditation and Dharma teacher in both the Tibetan and Zen Buddhist traditions, as an Acharya (senior Dharma teacher) in the global Shambhala Meditation Community and a Roshi (Zen master and lineage holder) in the Zen Peacemaker Order and Soto Zen tradition. He is also a fully ordained, senior Zen priest ordained in the Soto Zen lineage of Maezumi Roshi.

Acharya Maull has been teaching mindfulness-awareness meditation since 1981, having led more than 100 meditation retreats worldwide and currently leads mindfulness meditation programs and retreats for both newcomers and advanced practitioners at meditation centers and retreat centers around the world. Dr. Maull is also a pioneer and thought leader in the mainstream mindfulness movement who has developed cutting edge mindfulness-based emotional intelligence (MBEI) and trauma-informed leadership trainings, transformational seminars, and consulting and coaching programs, which he delivers in diverse business, nonprofit and government settings, including his pioneering work in developing the Mindfulness-Based Wellness & Resiliency (MBWR)® training programs for public safety professionals and other first responders, frontline health workers and social services providers.
Dr. Maull is a certified professional mindfulness teacher, teacher trainer and advisory board member with the International Mindfulness Teachers Association (IMTA) and a board member with the Institute for Organizational Mindfulness. He is also an advisory board member with the Frederick P. Lenz Foundation for American Buddhism.

He is also a holder of the Way of Council and certified Council Trainer with the Ojai Foundation and the Center for Council Training and a certified senior trainer with The Event Training, New Line Consulting, Windhorse Seminars & Consulting, Prison Mindfulness Institute and the Center for Mindfulness in Public Safety.

Dr. Maull taught Socially Engaged Buddhism, Buddhist Psychology, Contemplative Approaches to Peacemaking and Social Action, Integral Politics and other courses and meditation seminars at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado from 1999 – 2010. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at major universities and colleges including the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Medical School and other other universities like Brown University, Emory University, University of Colorado, University of Illinois, Colorado State University and Smith College.
Dr. Maull is also a frequent keynote speaker at national conferences in the corrections, mindfulness, social work and end of life care with a particular focus on trauma-informed mindfulness and resilience training. He is also a frequent online summit presenter and host in the same disciplinary areas, especially healing trauma and building resilience.

Dr. Maull is the author of the Mindful C.O. (2021), Radical Responsibility: How to Move Beyond Blame, Fearlessly Live Your Highest Purpose and Become an Unstoppable Force for Good (2019), Dharma in Hell: The Prison Writings of Fleet Maull (2000) along with numerous book chapters and research articles in peer-reviewed professional journals.

He has trained correctional officers, law enforcement officers and other public safety professionals, as well as treatment providers, trauma counselors and prison volunteers in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Wisconsin and the countries of Canada, Chile, France, Netherlands, Poland and Rwanda.
Dr. Maull travels world-wide offering mindfulness retreats, transformational seminars, leadership training programs, prison programs, first responder resilience training programs, and bearing witness retreats.
